Starburst quilt progress

A few days ago I found the most adorable backing for my Giant Starburst quilt. So I bought some and paired it with a great binding.

I chose Tamara Kate Helen's Garden Enchanted Cream for that backing and dear Stella Confetti Dot Cantaloupe for the binding. They look so lovely with my selection of greens that are to be the front. I LOVE them ALL!

The backing. Isn't it so lovely? It's even more adorable in person.
The binding. It's a fun pop of color for the front and goes great with the back.
Binding and Backing.
And the greens in the correct order.
Before I got my greens I had a plan that was based off of the the computer colors of the greens. I knew I'd probably be changing the order once I had the actual fabric and I was right. I switched a few around.

The plans.
Today I cut all the fabric for the front. It took me a couple of hours because I was checking and double checking the instructions. Remember I'm doing eight colors, not four. So I have to do a bit of checking to make sure I have the right size pieces. And I was occasionally geeking out about how lovely all my colors are. I got into a rhythm and I went faster as I continued cutting. (And I had to stop to get drinks of water and do my laundry.)

After cutting this is the progress so far laid out on the dining room table. With the afternoon sun streaming across.
I'll probably sew a bit on Saturday. Mostly I will sew next Monday. That's my day off and I get a lot done those days.

This is part of a quilt along. Although I'm not keeping up with them. That's okay though. I love it. My first real quilt!

White Flower Wreath progress

Several months ago for a church Relief Society activity we made wreaths. We got felt of our color choice and a twig wreath. The idea was to make felt flowers (which I was all down for) and put them on the wreath. It would look similar to this one, which I do like. But I had a different wreath in mind. I wanted the flowers to be the wreath, like this one. I got the twig wreath though. It's been hanging on my bedroom door for months. I saw a wreath like my twig one that was spray painted bright blue. I kind of like that idea. Maybe I'll spray paint my wreath a bright color someday. Anyways, the reason for this post is because I am finally getting around to hot gluing all those felt flowers I made to a wreath form. I am about halfway done and I love it so far. Here is a progress shot...

I need to buy more white felt and make more flowers. And then I can finish this wreath. I think I'll hang it on my bedroom door when it's done.

Overflowing Scarves

Today I went to Target and got my 2014 planner. It is lime green! I love it. While I was there I got a couple of white tension rods. I have wanted to organize my scarves for a while now. And since I got a scarf for Christmas it reminded me of this project. I used tension rods in the side of my closet and now I can hang all of my scarves. I have two rods. One I use for the thicker knit scarves that I use a lot during fall/winter. The other rod I placed in front and a tiny bit lower than the other. I use it for my fashion scarves. I wear those all the time. I hung up all of my scarves and they look so lovely. I think I’ll keep my scarves a lot more organized now.

Pom Pom Christmas

I saw this idea on Pinterest and I thought it would be fun to do for Christmas. So this past week I went to the dollar store and got several little packages of red, green, and white fuzzy pom poms. Today I strung them on some red thread. There isn't a pattern. Just no same colors in a row and I tried to make the three sizes somewhat random. There aren't a lot of the big poms in the bag and I like them. I think I'll have to go back and get some more bags so that my garland is really long. I haven't measured it. I just keep adding pom poms to the strand. I like it. It makes me happy. I want to do another garland with all the bright colors someday.

Halloween 2013

Tonight we had a costume party and pumpkin carving at the church.

I went as a modern Medusa. Meaning, I just wore jeans and a t-shirt. And the snakes in my hair were fun bright colors. Some of the snakes were glow in the dark. I bought dollar store snakes and bobby pins and hot glued them together. Then I stuck my hair up and started pinning the snakes in. Halfway through I stopped until Mom got home. And she helped fill in the holes with the rest of the snakes. ... I got lots of comments on my hair. It was fun. And worth the five dollars I spent on it. lol.

We also carved pumpkins. I went for a slight-traditional jack-o-lantern look. I also carved the word "boo".

Steven carved his pumpkin of a League of Legends character, Spirit Guard Uydr. He finished it when we got home.

The inspiration. Uydr in Phoenix mode.

And that was what we did this evening. It's always fun carving pumpkins with the ward.

Binder Designs

My little brother comes home from his mission in a couple of weeks. So I designed his cover page and spine label for his binder. I really like it. I almost like the spine design better then the title page. The overlapping words are cool.

Goal Setting

Goal setting is harder when I'm under pressure. Dad wanted me to write down at least 25 goals for now and my life in general. I was stumped for a few minutes after I wrote the first two. But I have ten goals right now. I'll think about them during the day. Hopefully I remember more that I've had so I can add them to the list.

Pinspiration: Drawer Dividers

I've been wanting to make drawer dividers for my bathroom for a while now. I wouldn't mind have fancy, clear, store bought ones someday but I wanted the drawer dividers now not later when I have money.

So I made my own.

I looked on Pinterest for some ideas. And I came across this post with dividers using balsa wood. I really liked them.

Inspiration: post on Pinterest, Original source here

So I got to work building my own.

I started by measuring the drawer that I wanted the dividers for. It's a 3"x10"x18" drawer. Then I went to Hobby Lobby and bought three strips of 3/23"x3"x24" balsa wood.

Here's my before shot. The drawer works as it is but I mostly wanted my makeup more accessible and out of that flowery case.

Before ...

And here it is after. I really like how it turned out. I can reach everything without moving other things that are on top. It still looks kind of crazy but it'll work so much better.

... After.

We'll see how much I like it after using it for a few days.

as always ... click the picture to see it bigger.

Snow Surprise

The snow itself wasn't a surprise. I knew this snow storm was coming.

After work I rode the train home like I always do. After 40 mins of being on the train and seeing all the snow I wasn't really looking forward to sweeping the snow off my car. I was tired and cold and I just didn't want to do it.

So I was surprised when walking to my car that they was less snow on my car then everyone else's. I was thinking some nice stranger had swept of another stranger's car. That's a nice random act of kindness. But then I walked around my car to the driver's side and saw Mark the Sheep in the snow.

I laughed. My brother had swept the snow off for me and left his little sheep cartoon. Actually it was big. You can see that drop at the bottom of the photo. That's the curb. lol.

All I  did was do a quick brush off one more time and I was good to go.

It was a nice random act of kindness that I really appreciated  It was a long and busy day at work. I was tired coming home so I was grateful that I didn't have to be out in the snow and the cold longer the necessary.

Bigger In My Head

All day today I have been gathering ideas via Pinterest for my "Alice In Wonderland" themed wedding. lol. I'm not engaged. I don't even have a boyfriend right now. But, hey, a girl can dream. lol. I added a TON of pictures to my "Alice" board. It is making me excited to plan my wedding for real.

Today I also wrapped all but one of my Christmas gifts. It's nice to have them all done. Now I just need to figure out what I'm getting my brother and buy it. I have nine days to do it. No pressure. lol. I like the theme I have this year for my wrapping. I am using red paper, green striped twine, and silver stamped names. It's simple and makes me smile when I see them sitting under the tree.

Yes, I got myself a present.
For FHE this past week we decorated Graham cracker houses. I decided to make a TARDIS from 'Doctor Who'. I dyed some frosting blue and "painted" the sides of my house. I decorated it with York candy pieces. I think it's kind of funny that my blue turned out to be a Tiffany blue. lol. I would have made it darker but I only had a pastel-type blue. It's unique and I like it.

For the past few weeks I have wanted to put my DVD collection in boxes on my bookshelf. I have covered my books white and the DVD are distracting. lol. So I thought I could put them in a shoe box and cover it. DVD don't fit in shoe boxes. So I turned to Pinterest for some ideas. I found this idea where they made there own boxes. Heck, I can do that. So, with permission, I took some cardboard boxes home from the plethora at work. This next week I will cut into them and create the perfect sized boxes. I'll cover them with either white or black paper. I think I'll even label the boxes a bit so I know what DVDs are inside. The labels are mostly for my tv seasons (Doctor Who, NCIS, Numbers...) and the other misc movies can be in an unlabeled box. Maybe.

Oh my gosh!!! I haven't told you about the most awesome news I have heard in the past couple of months. Josh Groban announced his new CD!!!! Eep!!! It's called 'All That Echoes' and it will be released February 5, 2013. I love the album cover and I can not wait to see more photos from the photo-shoot  And to hear the album, of course.
