Saturday Sings: The Best of Me

The Best of Me
by David Foster and Olivia Newton-John

So many years gone, still I remember
How did I ever let my heart believe
in one who never gave enough to me
And so many years gone, love that was so wrong
I can't forget the way it used to be
and how you changed the taste of love for me

You were my one more chance
I never thought I'd find
you were the one romance
I've always known in my mind
No one will ever touch me more
and I only hope that in return
I might have saved the best of me for you

And we'll have no ending if we can hold on
and I think I've come this far because of you
could be no other love but ours will do

You were my one more chance
I never thought I'd find
you were the one romance
I've always known in my mind
No one will ever touch me more
and I only hope that in return
I might have saved the best of me for you

No one will ever touch me more
and I only hope that in return
No matter how much we have to learn
I saved the best of me for you

David’s version is the original version of this song. I love David and Olivia’s version because David sings on that track in addition to playing the piano. He is such a great, smooth singer. David doesn’t think he is but I like his voice. David is an older gentleman and his voice does match his age but that is what makes it great. It has a true richness to it that I love. I always think that he should sing more often. I mean his voice is no Groban voice but I love it still. lol. But that being said, I have always hoped that one of his prodigies (ie, Josh Groban, Charice, Michael Bublé, Katherine McPhee etc.) would redo this song into their own style but no one had until Michael Bublé did it on his latest CD. It’s probably my favorite version now. Michael’s version is not a duet but it is sultry and so “Bublé” in delivery. When I first listen to CDs I like to be surprised as to what’s on the CD. Especially in Michael’s case since he remakes lots of classic songs. So as I was listening to the CD that this song is on I loved “The End of May” (which I’ll be doing a post on next week) and then the last song started and I fell in love with Michael all over again. :) He sings “The Best of Me” and I just love that song. I think I listened to this song two or three times that first day. It was great. lol.
